Our Public Water System Has Completed an Initial Service Line Inventory

The Bath Water District (BWD) is pleased to report that our initial service line inventory contains only non-lead service lines:

No Lead Service Lines or Galvanized Service Lines Requiring Replacement (GRR) were found, and we have no service lines where the construction material of the line is unknown.

On October 8, 2024, BWD provided the Maine Drinking Water Program with a request for approval of our initial service line inventory, which identified no lead, galvanized requiring replacement (GRR) or unknown service lines.

The service line inventory was developed using the following verification methods:

  • Records Review: Reviewed as-builts, tie-cards, and historical work orders to gather information from existing records.
  • Field Inspections: Conducted door-to-door inspections for service lines with unknown materials, examining lines entering homes. Vacuum excavation at curb valves was used where materials remained unknown.
  • Customer Self-Identification: Launched a Lead Service Line Inventory program on the BWD website, allowing customers to participate in an online survey for self-identification of their service lines.
  • Targeted Canvassing: Performed multiple door-to-door canvassing efforts to collect information on unknown service lines.
